Cancer cells may metastasize, or spread throughout the body, often ending up in a different location from where the cancer started (site of origin). For example, breast cancer may spread to the lungs, but it is still breast cancer. Recommended treatments are usually based on knowing the original location of the tumor.1
CancerTYPE ID is a laboratory test. It provides a diagnosis based on a gene expression profile of a tumor. The test results are provided to a physician to use along with other medical information, patient history, etc. to make a diagnosis and help determine the best course of treatment.
